The kindle ereader is so popular because it is lighter than a paperback book,  it is thin, and you can read it in sunlight.  This means that the Kindle can be carried in your purse or attache or wherever you carry your books in.  Another great feature is that you can read your kindle ereader at home or at the beach.  The Kindle ereader is different from an LCD screen (which you have on your cell phones etc.) because it has the “e-ink” technology or Pearl.  This makes the contrast brighter and hence easier to read.

As soon as Apple announced the release of the iPad, it was all anyone was talking about. All jokes about the name aside, the iPad caused a division between those who saw it as a turning point in portable computers and eBook readers, and those who saw it as simply unnecessary. Is the iPad just an expensive gadget that we don’t really need? Or is it the revolution in portable computing that we’ve all been waiting for?

Features of the Apple iPad
*The Apple ipad is available in 16GB/ 32GB and 34GB varieties,
* Available with Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + 3G,
* 9.7 inch LED backlit display,
* Choice of 150,000 apps,
* Touch screen,
* Download free iBooks (Apple’s new eBook format),
* Multiple functions including web browsing, emails, eBook reading, video, music, calendar and more.

Pros of the Apple iPad
For those who already use and love the iPhone and iPod, the good news is that the iPad will also make use of the apps you already have, as well as giving you access to the App Store with a choice of thousands more. Many of the navigational features have also been transferred from these devices to the new iPad, making it extremely easy to use for those who are familiar with them. This includes the buttons and ports around the edges of the device.

3G connectivity is a bonus for those times when you’re outside of a Wi-Fi zone (however, you have to make sure to purchase the 3G model). 3G plans are provided through the AT&T network and do not have a minimum contract term, allowing you to keep things flexible.

There are a huge range of features available on the iPad, meaning that it is a fantastic solution for both business and pleasure. Although standalone eBook readers are including more and more features all the time, they can’t beat the iPad.

ereaders

Ebook readers, also known as ereaders have become popular among gadget users.  Many people find that reading an ebook on ereaders such as Amazon’s Kindle, is much easier than a bulky book.  One may say that you could carry a whole library of books on one ereader.  It seems that Universities and schools have so much online material that the student can get all his references at home.

For the reader who loves to read books, the ereader may be a convenience.  One can carry this in their purse or a small book cover.  So portability is one the biggest attractions of the ereaders available on the market.  However popular these ebook readers may be, one doubts that it will do away with the need of paper books.

ereaders: will they replace paper books?

An ereader or ebook reader is a gadget where you can store hundreds of books that you can easily carry in your pocket or purse.  Imagine, having all your school textbooks on such a gadget.  The student would be able to access his reading material while watching a football game in the gym.  Amazon has put out the Kindle ereader that was very popular as Christmas gifts over the past 2 years.  However, there are pros and cons to everything out there, and erearders are no exception.

The pros to having an ereader is that it is very portable, and small enough to carry, and its connectivity.  The cons would be that like every electronic gadget, it may have malfunctions and cause one to panic.

So will these ereaders replace paper books any time in the near future?  Hardly.  Many people like the feel of a book and turning the pages as they read or to be able to write notes on their books, and hence would prefer the paper books.   Paper books will always be there, but these ereaders will bring a feeling of uncluttered space to enjoy as many books as possible.

But in recent past we have seen young children carrying big textbooks in their backpacks  home to do their homework and lug it all back to school the next day.  Even if  just the assignments were in an ebook form it will save the backs of many school children and all students of different ages.
